What to Expect
Best-practice recommends that assessment of the mental health of school aged children involves meeting with the individual child, the family/carer and liaison with the school.  This enables a comprehensive assessment to help understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses and identify resources within your child and family.  Assessment sessions are usually 90 minutes in duration i.e 30 minutes will be spent with the child, 30 minutes with the parent(s) and 30 minutes together.  After this initial meeting, a plan will be made to help tackle the presenting difficulties.

Therapy sessions
I offer  therapy sessions to clients aged 13 years +.  I will discuss with the client and client’s family which form of therapy I think will be most beneficial i.e either individual work, family work, or a combination of the two.  Individual work is usually 60 minutes in duration.

Psychoeducational Assessment/ Cognitive Assessment/ Assessment of Neurodiversity
At times I may recommend that a child undergo assessment of their cognitive strengths and weaknesses, or assessment for possible learning differences or neurodiversity.  In these instances, I can recommend colleagues to perform these specialist assessments.
